Cultivating a visual language

Cultivar: A Seed Sisters Exhibition
Edinburgh Central Library, Scotland
August 3 – 30, 2024
Details: Seed Sister Art

Over my decades of exploring the creative process and the natural world across continents, I have developed a visual vocabulary, or in German, eine Bildspräche, of forms, colors, lines, shapes, and textures, as well as unique compositional structures. This Bildspäche pulls from my memory of places I have been, from the items I find on my travels, the marks I have made, to cultivate a dialogue with the past and the present, with archaeology, geology, language and culture, with my history and experiences, with land and sky.

The works in this series are created with a multitude of drawing, painting, printmaking and found materials, including graphite, charcoal, pure pigment, oil crayon, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, rice paper, lemongrass paper, found vintage Hebrew grammar books, gel transfers from books in the Beck Archives, monoprints, German newspapers, Czech books, Israeli advertisements, and more… the list expands on every trip I take, and as I absorb more history, more language and more culture.

I will be exhibiting alongside Seed Sisters Art Collective members, Ingrid Bell, Makiko Berry, and Ann Stephens.
